Well despite a Tropical Storm, we arrived at SpouseBuzz Live safe and sound! LAW and I attended dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen with the Spouse Buzz team and of course Military.com team. The food was great and it was a blast hanging out with everyone.

Of course I will be streaming some live video throughout the day, you can watch it http://www.live.yahoo.com/household6

Hope to see you online!

My daughter-in-law called me yesterday and was all excited about the Spouse Buzz that she attended in VA Beach while I was worried to death about her being in Hanna. She emailed me this site and felt that I should give it a try since I had been a Navy mom for 18 years. I have never been on a blog before, but I have had a hand in creating three chapters of the Blue Star Mothers of America in towns where I have lived for the very purpose of finding support for both me, my family members and sharing it with other families. Just as resent as the last year, I moved away from that support. Knowing that another deployment was in the making and that I would need that motherly support I got busy and started contacting family members at any function that I could find. We are now 16 strong and I plan to share this site with them as well.

We have moms that are in all phases of dealing with there son’s and daughter’s choice to join the military. When we had a Mom who was falling apart because her son was having a rough time in basic, we all went around the table and told about what our experiences were when our child left for basic. After a few tears and laughs we all came away with a better feeling.

In the past 18 years, I’ve covered a lot of ground. I have the most wonderful daughter-in-law who has helped me and I am able to help her. Our great relationship has helped my son be able to do the job he does with minimal worry about having to leave his wife. She knows that she can call me day or night, I can’t always be there at her side, but I sure can listen. We even watch ballgames and tv shows over the phone when he is gone so much.

So put out those feelings, cause I’m sure there is a mom, dad or family member who can share with you and you will see, you are not alone.

welcome on board, Navy Mom. The Blue Star Mothers are a great source of support, and I admire them greatly. As you said, we are not alone.

I hope you come back often, or send me a post (story or advice) that we can put up and share your experience and knowledge with some of the newer Military Parents.

I have been reading some of the information on your site. Lots of great info. For parents and spouses it is a good idea to get your passport before your child or spouse is deployed. I would not have thought to do it, but my daughter-in-law insisted and I am so glad that I did. You never know when you will need it. You might need to meet your child in a different country for a vacation, R&R, or for an emergency. I can take several weeks to get one and you would not want to miss out because of not having a required passport.

Thank you for allowing me to add to your parents zone.
